I'm confused about how to start.
This newsletter is not as clueless as the title makes it seem (I promise you).
Shall we begin?
To my new subscribers and those who have been here since February(February, wow), I say welcome to the first issue of my newsletter. As far as procrastination goes, I guess I'm pretty ahead of you - don't hate, appreciate. I'm thrilled to start this little trip with a beautiful mind like yours. There was an urge to use "journey" instead of "trip" there, but I resisted it - "journey" feels like a heavy word. You have decided to rock with me and….
"Olumide, shut up and tell us what we stand to gain by being here. We do not have all day."
"Wait, who said that?'
Baby, this is what you came for. 🎵🎵
(Did you sing that? 😉)
I thought way too long that this first issue almost felt like something I just had to put out to end a long streak of procrastination, considering it has been in the works for nearly five months. I thought of the significant newsletters I read, and most of them are also predominantly centred around one particular topic e.g.
Notadeepdive - Nigerian economic and financial sector
Korties - A newsletter dedicated to Korty.
BD Insider - A newsletter about the Nigerian and African startup sector
David Reed - Content Strategy Reeder - A newsletter about Content Marketing.
These newsletters all seek to serve one purpose, and it got me wondering if my newsletter had to be about one thing for it to succeed. But if there's one thing I've learnt from self-help books and motivational speakers, starting scared, it's that starting confused is okay. Well, I'm neither afraid nor confused - maybe I was a bit confused - but one thing is sure; you can never be fully prepared.
"You're still talking too much; I have noodles on fire."
To dive right into it: This newsletter will be all over the place. Now, please wait for a second; this is not as scary as it sounds. "All over the place" doesn't mean a lack of structure or direction; it simply means we will be covering a wide range of topics - marketing, tech, entertainment, personal development, career, etc.
I'll share with you articles I'm reading, jokes and puns, and every last Thursday of the month(which will usually be the day I drop the second and final issue for the month), I'll do a short review of a book I find interesting.
Note:
This newsletter will not always be an escape from your reality. Here, we'll discuss real-life issues, and I am looking forward to your opinions. Feel free to write to me back regarding suggestions on what you would like to see in this newsletter. You can also drop a comment on the main page. I hope we're able to build a more extensive community from this.
See you on the last Thursday of the month - in 3 weeks.
Articles I'm reading.
I have not read much this week because of work and programming classes, but this Zikoko Nairalife article from last week in which a 24-year old girl’s income jumped from N200k per month to $97K per annum stays calling me broke.
Video of the day
Here's a video that awakened me when I was in a terrible headspace from my favourite Youtuber. It might just help you too.
Wait, I have to wait for three weeks?🧐
Anyways, I am looking forward to moreee.
Don't starve us, please.🤲🏾
